The Lesher Center for the Arts is acknowledged as the leading cultural and entertainment “hub” of the East bay
To enrich the quality of artistic programming within the Lesher Center for the Arts (LCA) and to create avenues for everyone to enjoy the arts.
The Diablo Regional Arts Association (DRAA) was incorporated in 1993 as a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization of the Lesher Center for the Arts, and the City of Walnut Creek’s designated curator for the Center’s programming and audience outreach. DRAA promotes quality performing and visual arts productions at the Lesher Center and makes those accessible to as many people as possible.
Since it opened in 1990, the Lesher Center has become a vital cultural and economic force in the East Bay, hosting nearly 1,000 productions and community events a year and selling a record 230,000 tickets in 2009. With DRAA’s support, the Lesher Center and other professional arts organizations have transformed downtown Walnut Creek into an entertainment, dining, retail, and conference destination, generating more than $56 million in local economic activity. DRAA itself has grown from a nonprofit that provides just $65,000 a year to a funding powerhouse that provides more than $750,000 annually. Its youth education programs and community outreach serve the East Bay region.
DRAA couldn’t do this without the strong partnerships we have forged with the City of Walnut Creek, individual donors, foundations, and the East Bay business community. We are governed by a 20-member Board of Directors. It is one of the most active, engaged, and well-connected Board of Directors in the Bay Area, made up of high-level executives from major East Bay corporations, business CEOs, and leaders in civic, community, and nonprofit sectors.
